According to Google Zeitgeist, the most googled words in 2014 were:
1. Robin Williams
2. World Cup
3. Ebola
4. Malyasia Airlines
5. Flappy Bird
6. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
7. ISIS
8. Ferguson
9. Frozen
10. Ukraine

The list of the most Googled words for 2013, on the other hand, was dominated by a several notable deaths (three actors and one statesman) and one tragedy on American soil:

1. Paul Walker
2. Boston Marathon Bombing
3. Nelson Mandela
4. Cory Monteith
5. iPhone 5s
6. Government Shutdown
7. James Gandolfini
8. Harlem Shake
9. Royal Baby
10. Adrian Peterson
